Welcome to Falu Prison Hostel

start

The prison was built between 1842 and 1848, inaugurated in 1849, and closed in 1995. During its active period as a prison, it underwent many renovations and restorations, but the exterior of the building remains virtually unchanged.

In 2000, we bought the prison with a view to opening it as a hostel in the centre of Falun, close to Lugnet’s sports and recreational area. After six months of rebuilding and refurbishment work, we opened in the summer of 2000, and the old prison is now a hostel, conference venue, restaurant and museum.
